The Pavlovic Today is on the ground at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, providing special coverage of this week’s high-level meetings.
This year’s Summit of the Future, held during the UNGA, underscores the urgent need for enhanced international cooperation to tackle pressing issues such as climate change, poverty, and inequality. The summit will also focus on addressing the ongoing impacts of conflicts and global health crises.
Aiming to reaffirm commitments to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the United Nations Charter, the Summit seeks to foster collaboration and lay the groundwork for a revitalized multilateral system. The outcome will be a negotiated Pact for the Future, an action-oriented document designed to boost global cooperation and effectively respond to current challenges for the benefit of all and future generations.
“After meeting and consulting with Member States over the last days, the President of the General Assembly has presented a Pact for the Future to the General Assembly,” said Sharon Birch, Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly
“He urges all Member States to support the adoption of the Pact and its annexes by consensus at the Summit of the Future tomorrow, Sunday 22 September 2024. It will be a historic moment to recommit to a better future for everyone, everywhere”.
