The Summer Rising application is now open, a program for NYC students in grades K-8, which provides both academic and enrichment programming. This free program is a partnership between New York City Public Schools and the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD).
Both academic and enrichment programming will be planned and operated collaboratively by school principals and community-based organizations (CBOs). Some of these events include field trips, arts activities, and outdoor recreation.
The K–8 students will receive academic support, social-emotional learning, and enrichment activities on a typical day. Mornings will be filled with academic programs taught by licensed teachers. In the afternoons, students will participate in enrichment activities like art, sports, and play, which will be led by CBO staff. Students with disabilities will be able to receive support from a paraprofessional.
The Summer Rising will create a safe and supportive environment for children to respond to children’s social and emotional needs. The program will serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
Any multilingual learners/English language learners in grades K-8 participating in Summer Rising will engage in academic activities targeting language and literacy development to support them with grade-level content.
The deadline for the Summer Rising application is March 25.
