Good Morning DC,
This week has been eventful, with the debt ceiling negotiations setting a new tone for America. The word “bipartisanship” has emerged as the winner, as both Republicans and Democrats have come to realize that they won’t get everything they want.
Nevertheless, they have managed to secure sufficient concessions to boast that each side single-handedly rescued the nation from the brink of default.
On Wednesday, I attended the late-night press conference with the Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy. I asked him what exactly he means when he says that he won’t give up on the American people.
Similar to Leader Jeffries, the rise of McCarthy is an intriguing topic that I have covered in a long-form piece.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) unveiled the qualifications for the upcoming Republican presidential primary debates. These guidelines outline the necessary steps for candidates to secure a spot on the stage for the first debate scheduled on August 23. In order to participate, candidates must commit to supporting the eventual Republican nominee and refrain from engaging in any external debates.
To be eligible, candidates must meet several challenging criteria by August 21:
- Obtain donations from a minimum of 40,000 contributors nationwide.
- Garner support from “at least 200 unique donors per state or territory in 20 or more states and/or territories.”
- Achieve a polling result higher than 1% in three national polls, or two national polls and a state poll conducted after July 1.
