On July 19, “Freedom Day,” Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the final steps for the lockdown to be lifted in the UK. However, night club goers may need to show proof of vaccination to get back into nightclubs.
During a UK press briefing, Boris Johnson announced the accomplishment of reaching the UK’s fourth step in their roadmap to “freedom” from lockdown restrictions.
“If we don’t open up now, then we face a risk of even tougher conditions in colder months when the virus has a natural advantage,” said Boris Johnson. “There comes a point after so many have been vaccinated when further restrictions no longer prevent authorizations and deaths, but simply delay the inevitable.”
The Prime Minister said that he understood that the numbers in COVID-19 cases were on the rise. However, he said that it is now or never when it comes to opening the UK back up from lockdown restrictions.
Nonetheless, people that live in the UK may be required to show proof of vaccination to get into any nightclubs after lockdown restrictions have been fully lifted.
“I don’t want to have to close nightclubs,” said Boris Johnson, “but it does mean clubs need to do the socially responsible thing and make use of the COVID pass which shows proof of vaccination.”
Boris Johnson went on to say that a negative test against COVID-19 was no longer enough. Instead, proof of vaccination will be needed to ensure the safety of all individuals in the UK.
Now, we are left with the question of whether the US will mandate the same regulation for individuals that want to start partying again.
Many clubs in New York City were requiring proof of vaccination, or a negative COVID test, to get into nightclubs under 5000 in capacity. However, after a high number of individuals started to receive the vaccine, Governor Andrew Cuomo lifted this restriction.
With COVID-19 on the rise again, it would not be a surprise if our favorite nightclubs started to require proof of vaccination. Now that the UK is starting to make this a requirement, we are moments away from seeing if our US governors will do the same.
