Earlier tonight, Speaker McCarthy announced that a debt ceiling agreement in principle has been reached with the Democrats, marking a significant development in addressing the debt ceiling.
“Earlier this evening, Speaker McCarthy and I reached a budget agreement in principle,” President Biden confirmed the breakthrough.
“It is an important step forward that reduces spending while protecting critical programs for working people and growing the economy for everyone,” President Biden emphasized, underlining the significance of the agreement in balancing fiscal responsibility with the needs of the American people.
“And, the agreement protects my and Congressional Democrats’ key priorities and legislative accomplishments,” President Biden added, underscoring the alignment of the agreement with the goals and achievements of the Democratic party.
“The agreement represents a compromise, which means not everyone gets what they want. That’s the responsibility of governing,” President Biden acknowledged.
The President emphasized the positive implications of the agreement for the American people, highlighting its crucial role in averting a potentially disastrous default.
In the coming day, negotiators from both sides will work on finalizing the legislative text. Subsequently, the agreement will be presented to the United States House and Senate for consideration.
“I strongly urge both chambers to pass the agreement right away,”said Biden.
