Actress Alyssa Milano addresses criticism regarding asking her followers for $10,000 in donations to fund her son’s baseball team. Critics have questioned the appropriateness of these fund raising efforts, one social media post calling her “out-of-touch and tone deaf”.

Milano set up a GoFundMe page asking for $10,000 in donations to fund her son’s baseball team’s trip to the home of the Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown, New York. According to the page, the money would go toward travel costs, uniforms, and dues for families, with the possibility of some of the donations going towards pins or novelty items in order to create “memorable experiences beyond the field”.

The page was created on May 19, 2023 under the name Alyssa Bugliari, Milano’s married name, with David Bugliari, her husband, as the beneficiary. Since then, the GoFundMe exceeded its desired goal of $10,000.

Many questioned if Milano plays a financial role in her son’s life, prompting her to release a few social media posts justifying her actions.

“I’m getting media inquiries about whether I have financially contributed to my son’s baseball team. I’ve paid for uniforms for the entire team and coaches, thrown bday parties and sponsor any kid who can’t afford monthly dues,” Milano stated on X on Friday.

Milano explained that fundraising isn’t an uncommon activity for the baseball team to do.

“The kids also do fundraising themselves — car washes, movie nights, and many other fun things!,” she added.

She ended her statement by thanking everyone who donated.
