House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul on Tuesday sharply criticized President Joe Biden’s speech at the United Nations General Assembly, accusing the administration of leaving the world “far more dangerous” than when Biden took office.
“With the world on fire, President Biden visited UNGA today to tout his administration’s foreign policy ‘success,’” McCaul said in a statement. He pointed to the war in Ukraine, China’s growing threats toward Taiwan and the Philippines, and Iran’s escalated attacks, including Hamas’ killing of more than 1,200 people in Israel, as evidence of Biden’s foreign policy failures.
McCaul also linked the global unrest to what he called Biden’s “botched withdrawal” from Afghanistan in 2021. “His withdrawal left a thousand Americans stranded under Taliban rule, emboldened America’s adversaries, and led to the deaths of 13 servicemembers,” McCaul said. He added that Afghan women and girls now live under one of the world’s most oppressive regimes.
“The Biden-Harris administration’s weakness enabled this catastrophe and left us with two hot wars and a hot zone,” McCaul said, urging the U.S. to project strength to restore peace.
