President Biden’s Press Secretary confirmed that Ukrainian President Zelenskyy is scheduled to visit the White House on December 12, 2022. The invitation is a testament to the United States’ “unshakeable commitment” to Ukraine, even as the ongoing conflict in the region contends with the spotlight cast on events in Gaza.

According to Secretary of State Blinken, Ukraine is currently facing a critical funding shortage, stating that the country is “running out of funding.”

President Biden has requested a $110 billion wartime funding package for both Ukraine and Israel from Congress. However, the proposed funding has encountered obstacles related to US immigration policy and border security as reasons for the lack of progress.

Last week, White House budget chief Shalanda Young sent a letter to congressional leaders, warning that failure to act on a new round of funding before the end of the year could severely impact Ukraine’s capabilities on the battlefield, cautioning that such inaction threatens to “kneecap Ukraine on the battlefield.”

During an October press call, Young emphasized Biden’s significant point: Putin suggested Ukraine would have only one week to survive without American assistance.

“Putin is betting that the United States will walk away from defending its democratic partner, Ukraine; walk away from the coalition of countries it has built over the last 18 months, ” said Young.

Amidst heightened tensions and increased missile and drone strikes by Russia against Ukraine, the upcoming meeting between President Zelenskyy and President Biden will focus on addressing Ukraine’s urgent needs.

“As Russia ramps up its missile and drone strikes against Ukraine, the leaders will discuss Ukraine’s urgent needs and the vital importance of the United States’ continued support at this critical moment, ” said Jean-Pierre ahead of Zelenskyy visit.
