Today, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany held a press conference that addressed Trump’s stance on the Capitol Hill Occupation Protest (CHOP), the coronavirus, the Russia Bounty issue, and the Black Lives Matter protests, Jasmine Razeghi reports.
McEnany began today’s press conference with a celebration. “I am pleased to inform everyone that Seattle has been liberated,” she said. CHOP was dispersed today after Mayor Jenny Durkin issued an Executive Order yesterday calling for the occupied area to be vacated as reports of violence and concerns for public safety grew.
She called CHOP “a failed four-week democratic experiment by the radical left.” McEnany went on to praise the President in his work to act in response to failed democratic leadership. The Press Secretary called the Mayor’s Executive Order long-delayed and “an admission that President Trump’s vision is right, that anarchy is wrong, and that law and order bring peace.”
Russia Bounty Unverified
In response to questions about the Russia Bounty incident, McEnany said that the President has faith in National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien amongst others who agreed that the report did not have a reason to be sent to his desk.
She went on to praise the administration for its toughness on Russia. McEnany referred to the killing of General Soleimani as an example of when Donald Trump acted in order to protect American troops. She repeated that the NYT report remains unverified.
Trump Agrees Black Lives Matter But Does Not Support The Organization
The Press Secretary clarified the President’s recent claim that Black Lives Matter is a symbol of hate was targeted at the organization Black Lives Matter. She noted that Trump does believe all Black lives matter but that the language used by those affiliated with the organization was hateful. Specifically, she noted the chant, “pigs in a blanket, fry them like bacon” as hateful towards police officers.
When reporters cited the Black Lives Matter movement being present in all 50 states, McEnany repeated the negative dialogue she tied to the organization. She also quoted the New York president of Black Lives Matter Hawk Newsome when he spoke to Fox News, “if this country doesn’t give us what we want, then we will burn down the system.”
McEnany: Trump Is Confident That The Coronavirus Will Disappear
McEnany noted that the President is confident that the coronavirus will disappear as she cited his “revolutionary first-class team that is going to break through bureaucracy and get us a vaccine.”
She repeated Trump’s claim that the more people are tested, the more case numbers will rise when she responded to a reporter that asked about the rising numbers in the United States. The Press Secretary said that the “embers” around the country, where states have seen spikes in cases, were expected while the country transitioned into reopening.
