White House Launches ‘Trump TV’ After Barring Reporters From Three News Outlets

The White House launched a 24-hour video stream dubbed “TRUMP TV” on Monday night, days after President Donald Trump barred CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House amid a growing dispute over White House press access.

Billed as “TRUMP TV: The Essentials Station,” the new stream will feature the Trump administration’s biggest moments, major remarks and video highlights, updated in real time.

The move follows Trump’s decision Friday to exclude the three news organizations from the White House, accusing them of publishing what he calls “fake news.”

As The Pavlovic Today reported, Trump said he believed he had an “obligation” to keep news organizations he considers “fake news” out of the White House.

The dispute escalated Monday when CNN, MS NOW and Politico sued the Trump administration, arguing that their journalists’ credentials had been revoked because the White House objected to their reporting and that the action violated First Amendment protections.

It also prompted a joint response from the television networks that provide pooled coverage of the president.

CNN had been scheduled to handle Monday’s television pool assignment during UN week in New York. After the White House prevented CNN from fulfilling the assignment, ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC declined to provide a replacement crew. The five-network television pool subsequently suspended coverage of events designated for presidential pool coverage.

Hours later, the White House launched Trump TV.

The administration has defended the restrictions by arguing that freedom of the press does not guarantee any particular outlet a permanent White House credential, briefing-room seat or place in the presidential press pool.

CNN, MS NOW and Politico argue in their lawsuit that the government cannot withdraw access because officials object to an outlet’s coverage.

The launch of Trump TV adds another dimension to the dispute. As the three news organizations challenge the administration’s restrictions in federal court, the White House is expanding its ability to distribute presidential appearances directly to the public through a White House-operated channel.
