VP Kamala Harris took one question from the press on the tarmac in Reno about whether she thought progress could be made on gun-safety legislation.

Does VP Harris has any confidence Congress can get something real done on guns?

While realistic about the challenges, she said, “I remain optimistic.”

I temper my optimism with, you know, knowing that when Sandy Hook happened, nothing happened.  But, you know, I — I do believe that people can learn, and I do believe that people can revisit an issue like this and perhaps have a change of heart and mind.  So, I remain optimistic.

The VP is in Reno for the US Conference of Mayors where she said that it is “clear that we must renew the assault weapons ban. We  must repeal the liability shield that protects gun manufacturers, and we must pass red flag laws to prevent people from possessing fire arms if they are a danger to themselves or others.”

This evening, in honor of National Gun Violence Awareness Day, the White House will be illuminated in orange
