The first polls have closed
In a highly anticipated election night, the first polls have closed in parts of Kentucky and Indiana. Voting will continue until 7 p.m. local time, when polls will also close in the remaining areas of these two solidly Republican states. At the same time, voters in several other states, including the critical swing state of Georgia, will cast their final ballots. Approximately 10 polling locations in a handful of Georgia counties will remain open late following non-credible threats that briefly disrupted voting, according to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
Harris spends Election Night doing radio interview
“The vast majority of us have so much more in common than what separates us,” Vice President Kamala Harris said during an election night interview with Zerlina Maxwell. The two urged supporters to get out the vote before the polls close.
On January 20th, it’s either going to be him or me in the White House, and if it is him, he’s going to be sitting there stewing over his enemies list, plotting his revenge, playing out all of his grievances, which are all about himself, versus what I will be doing if elected president, which is working from day one on my to-do list on behalf of the American people to make progress through common ground solutions that are common-sense solutions.
NBC exit polls show economy dominates voter concerns, with Harris voters prioritizing democracy
NBC News exit polls indicate that the economy is a decisive issue for voters in the 2024 election. Nearly half of voters say they are financially worse off now than they were four years ago, marking the highest level of economic dissatisfaction in any presidential race over the past 16 years. By comparison, in 2008, amid the financial crisis, 42% of voters felt worse off. Only one in four voters believe their financial situation has improved since 2020. With voters showing more trust in Donald Trump on economic issues than in Kamala Harris, the outcome could be swayed in his favor. The other issue is the state of democracy and on that vote can go to Harris.
NBC News exit polls reveal a stark contrast in the priorities of Harris and Trump voters. A majority of Harris supporters identified the state of democracy as their top concern, followed by abortion, which 20% cited as the most crucial factor. The economy, foreign policy, and immigration were next in importance for Harris voters. In contrast, half of Trump voters ranked the economy as their primary issue, with immigration coming in second at 20%. Democracy (12%), abortion (6%), and foreign policy (4%) rounded out the concerns for Trump supporters.
