The United States has carried out airstrikes on three nuclear sites in Iran, President Donald Trump confirmed, marking a dramatic escalation in tensions between the two nations.

“We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social. “All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home,” he added.

The strikes, which took place overnight, targeted some of the most sensitive elements of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. It is not immediately clear how much damage was inflicted or whether Iran’s nuclear program will be significantly hindered.

Trump, who has maintained an aggressive stance toward Iran during and after his presidency, said “now is the time for peace” following the operation.

In response, Iran requested an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council and called on the international community to condemn the U.S. action.

“The events this morning are outrageous and will have everlasting consequences,” Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a post on X. He added that Iran “reserves all options to defend its sovereignty, interest, and people.”
