US District Judge Tanya Chutkan’s decision to delay the March 4 trial date marks a significant shift, potentially influencing the political landscape as Trump’s high-profile trial nears the upcoming election.

“The court will set a new schedule if and when the mandate is returned,” Judge Chutkan stated in an order Friday.

This development aligns with Trump’s campaign strategy, particularly as he eyes the GOP nomination post-South Carolina.

Facing four counts from special counsel Jack Smith’s election subversion charges, including conspiracy to defraud the United States and obstruct an official proceeding, Trump maintains his plea of not guilty. Asserting presidential immunity, he aims to push the trial further into the election year, which could potentially work in his favor.

In South Carolina, Trump is also staying on the ballot, it has been ruled today.
