President Donald Trump called for NBC and ABC to lose their broadcast licenses after the networks declined to air his address alleging China’s interference in the 2020 election.
During the speech, Trump announced the declassification of intelligence files that he said concerned the 2020 election and alleged Chinese involvement in efforts to influence the outcome.
ABC and NBC did not carry the address live on their broadcast networks, instead making it available through their streaming platforms. Both networks aired special reports summarizing Trump’s remarks after the speech concluded.
Trump accused the outlets of participating in a broader effort to suppress his remarks.
“In a rare move, NBC and ABC fake news have both said that they would not cover this speech,” Trump said. “They and others in the media are part of a plot. They want to continue this fraud for whatever reason.”
“Fraud like this should mean a revocation of their licenses,” he added.
White House communications director Steven Cheung also joined the criticism.
“Cowards. NBC and ABC don’t want you to hear the truth,” Cheung wrote in a post on X. “All they want to do is hide the facts from YOU.”
