The Biden campaign moves swiftly to claim and celebrate the newly acquired position of President-elect. Senior Advisor Symone Sanders shares preliminary updates and remarks on the victory.

Symone Sanders came down to the lobby to speak with the clerk about something and was surrounded by reporters. She was wearing a white medical mask and a bejeweled black headband.

“We have long since said since Tuesday that the math was in our favor, the numbers were in our favor, that we were looking at the math and that we were confident in our strategy”, Symone Sanders began. She went on to thank the press for their attendance at briefings and attested to the transparency of the campaign. “We didn’t have anything to hide, and we knew that when the votes were counted that Joe Biden would be the next president of the United States”, Sanders said.

She shared that the Biden campaign is “elated and excited and looking forward to tonight… I think today is 48 years to the day that Joe Biden was first elected to the United States Senate. That was a position that he took after his first wife and daughter were killed in a car accident. He was sworn into the United States Senate at his children — at his two sons’ bedside — because they were in the hospital”, she said.

“So this is a win, frankly, for America. Vice president Biden, now President-elect Biden, has said that he ran as a proud Democrat, but he will govern as a president for all Americans,” she predicted, before concluding“If we are reflecting on just the gravity of this moment for Joe Biden personally, it’s really amazing.”

How would you respond to the President’s saying, you know, this doesn’t count and he’s not conceding?

“Donald Trump does not get to decide the winner of elections. The people decide, voters in the country decide, as we have long said, and voters have made their choice very clear.”

What will Biden say tonight in an effort to bring the country together?

“Stay tuned.”

Sanders was asked about her thoughts of Kamala Harris making history.

“Some of you might have seen that Mr. Emhoff, Doug Emhoff, just tweeted a photo of he and Senator Harris. Well, have some social coming out from her. You will probably see a video on her social media.”

Reporters: “We saw it.”

“Oh, you saw the video. Okay, perfect. So look, I think it’s another not only have we elected the next president of the United States of America, we’ve elected the first black woman, Asian American woman to serve as vice president. I think it’s a momentous thing. It’s a historic day for a number of various reasons. And we’re all just very excited. And I know I can. I don’t think it comes as a surprise to anyone that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris cannot wait to get to work for the American people. Okay.”

The Biden campaign-transition team announced an 8 p.m. ET address from the Chase Center in Wilmington.
