Following the terrorist attack in Manchester, Selma Hayek makes a raw and emotional statement at the Cannes film festival.
This morning, Women in Motion welcomed Salma Hayek for a talk against the violence towards women. One of the subjects was the rape and the difficulties the victims of sexual assault face when wanting to speak about it.
“It’s true that it takes a lot of courage to dare to speak,” said Salma Hayek, “because there is a good chance that nobody will believe you! And because we must fight so that this violence, which takes on multiple faces around the world, is never again associated with the word ‘normal’.”
The news that overshadowed the Cannes film festival today was the terrorist attack in Manchester at the concert of Ariana Grande. On that, Selma Hayek stated: “I do not know what to feel today, and I am terrified what to say to my daughter. And I am not going to pretend to be smart about it, as I am still emotionally impacted because to my daughter, Ariana Grande is her favorite singer. If this concert was London, my daughter would’ve been in that concert. It’s her favorite singer. This is one of the reasons why I have not slept. I am devastated”
