Penny Mordaunt has announced she is dropping out of the race for the prime minister of the UK. 

“These are unprecedented times. Despite the compressed timetable for the leadership contest it is clear that colleagues feel we need certainty,” Penny said in her announcement

Rishi Sunak has cleared now all the obstacles to become the next prime minister.

“Huge congratulations to Rishi Sunak. He is exactly the Prime Minister we need. All of those who know Rishi well know he has the integrity, ability and experience to lead our country in these troubled times,” said Matt Hancock.

Sunak is Britain’s 57th prime minister and the leader of the Conservative Party. He will address the 1922 Committee at 2:30 pm.
