Asked by reporters whether he felt under pressure from President Trump to investigate Joe Biden, Zelensky said in English: “I don’t want to be involved in US election.“

Both Presidents were seated next to each other, flanked by their translators. They joked a couple of times during their encounter.

For instance when President Trump praised Ukraine for its “tremendous potential,“ Zelensky responded: “I know that! I am from this country.“

Volodymyr Zelensky thanked President Trump for his support and invited him to visit Ukraine – to give his word that he will do it. “I will try,“ Potus responded.

Zelensky stressed that his “priority is to stop the war on Donbas.“ He added: “We don’t help. We need support.“

“We are the biggest country in Europe, but we want to be the richest one,“ the Ukrainian President said.

President Trump went on blaming other countries for not doing enough to support Ukraine: “Germany, France should do more,“ he said. “They should feel guilty.“

Asked by reporters whether he felt under pressure from President Trump to investigate Joe Biden, Zelensky said in English: “I don’t want to be involved in US election.“ He then continued in Ukrainian: “No one pushed me. There was no pressure… We are an independent country.“ He also stressed that he on his part “didn’t call or push anyone“ to open an investigation.
