Today, Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries jointly announced that Isaac Herzog, President of the State of Israel, will address a Joint Meeting of Congress on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

The visit by President Herzog aims to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the statehood of Israel and reaffirm the enduring special relationship between the United States and Israel.

In a statement, Speaker McCarthy expressed his honor to host President Herzog, drawing parallels to his recent bipartisan trip to Israel, which mirrored this upcoming visit.

Reflecting on his historic address to the Israeli Knesset in May, Speaker McCarthy noted that President Herzog’s father, President Chaim Herzog, was the only other President of Israel to have shared this distinction, more than 35 years ago.

“The world is better off when America and Israel work together,” Speaker McCarthy emphasized. “Eleven minutes after declaring independence in 1948, the United States was the first to recognize the state of Israel, and today, we continue to strengthen the unbreakable bond between our two democracies.”
