President Joe Biden revealed today that he attempted to contact the family of Evan Gershkovich, an American journalist detained in Russia. Before boarding Air Force One, the President stated, “I tried to get them yesterday. We missed calls. I called them yesterday, and we missed calls. I’m going to try them from the plane.” When asked for an update on Gershkovich’s case, the President stated, “Well, you know, we’re making it real clear that it’s totally illegal what’s happening, and we declared it so. It changes the dynamic.”

The President also highlighted that his top priority on his trip to Europe was to ensure that the Belfast agreement and the Windsor agreement, which aim to keep peace, stay in place. “That’s the main thing. And it looks like we’re going to keep your fingers crossed,” he said.

When asked if his family would accompany him on the trip, President Biden confirmed that only two of his family members, who hadn’t been to Europe before, would join him.

Regarding the recent ruling on abortion pills, the President commented, “My thoughts are: It’s completely out of bounds what the judge did.”
