THE WHITE HOUSE

Following the Brittney Griner’s release from the Russian prison, President Biden said that he spoke to her on the phone and that she is safe. She is on a plane. She is on her way home.” Griner has been released in exchange for Viktour Bout, an international arms dealer also known as “Merchant of Death.” 

Biden summon the press earlier than expected this morning for his televised remarks in the Roosevelt room over Griner’s release. “This has been hell” noted Biden, for Griner and her family. The President said Griner is in good spirits and has experienced “trauma” and will need time.

He added that release of Paul Whelan is still a priority for the United States.

At at a vigil for victims of gun violence at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Washington, Biden said that “we can” ban assault weapons. “A lot of peoples lives were saved,” Biden said recalling legislation passed in the 90’s under Speaker Nancy Pelosi, on gun regulations. “You know we can do it again.” 

Today, President Biden will announce $36 billion for the Central States Pension Fund, a measure aimed at protecting over 350,000 union workers and retirees.

Another day, another strike across the pond. UK Border Force staff at the airports will go on strike at Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham, Cardiff, Manchester, Glasgow.

Matt Hancock announced he is leaving politics to purse other opportunities.

The US and the UK have established a “Joint Action Group for Energy Security and Affordability. According to the White House, the Joint Action Group will be composed of the representatives from the offices of the President Biden and the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

“We have not gone mad,” Russian President Vladimir Putin stated in a televised address calling nuclear weapons a tool of deterrence in Ukraine. Ned Price of the State Department said that “a nuclear war is something that must never be fought and can never be won. We have heard that from the PRC, we have heard that from India, we have heard that from our allies. We have reaffirmed it, and we’ve also heard it reaffirmed by Russia.”

Zelenskyy has has been named “person of the year” by Time magazine.

CONGRESSIONAL POLITICS

The White House is taking credit for Democrats keeping control of the Senate seat in Georgia. “Senator Warnock ran on the Biden agenda,” said White House spokesperson Andrew Bates.”Republican officials widely own this latest defeat for the extreme, ultra MAGA vision. And this is a significant new testament, in an intensely competitive purple state, to how much the Biden agenda and mainstream values are resonating with the American middle class,” he added.
