Good Morning DC,
Who would have thought that Ron DeSantis would endorse Donald Trump? Yet, it happened. As a result, Trump called DeSantis a “really terrific person.”
And so it begins.
Let’s get you caught up with the news of the day.
THE WHITE HOUSE
President Biden will return to the White House today from Rehoboth.
He made a statement on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade, emphasizing that he and Vice President Harris will continue to fight to protect women’s reproductive freedom against the Republicans’ “dangerous, extreme, and out-of-touch” agenda.
2024 ELECTION
It’s highly unlikely that New Hampshire will bring any surprises for the Republicans. Nikki Haley is still in the fight, but the CNN/UNH poll shows Trump gaining a double-digit lead over her. He is at 50% and Haley is at 39%.
“Not that words have any meaning anymore, but if there is a ‘Swamp,’ it’s Republican Career Politicians racing to endorse Trump and demanding others drop out & endorse him when barely 100,000 people in Iowa have voted,” stated former White House Communications Director under Trump, Alyssa Farah. “And half of Iowans wanted someone other than Trump!”
Dean Phillips is contemplating running on a “no-labels ticket.” If his path to run as a Democrat against Biden is closed, Phillips may carve out a new one. The congressman-entrepreneur does not believe that Biden can win against Trump.
ON THE HILL
The House is out of session this week, while the Senate is in. Several outstanding issues demand bipartisan agreement, ranging from border security to foreign aid, with Ukraine right at the center of it all.
GLOBAL AFFAIRS
The US military has confirmed the death of two Navy SEALs who went missing during an operation aimed at seizing Iranian weapons suspected to be destined for Houthi rebels in Yemen.
This week, Blinken is traveling to Cabo Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and Angola. He is expected to return to DC on January 26, 2024.
Regarding the controversial decision by Kosovo Central Bank to suspend the Serbian dinar, the EU has issued a statement, but the US has not yet responded. The Pavlovic Today has been promised a response from the State Department but has not received any statement yet. The reason for the delay is unclear at the moment.
