Good Morning DC,
One of the things I love to do on Wednesdays is to tune in to the latest episode of Business Untitled. This podcast is like having your BFF spill all the deets on how to slay in the business world while keeping it sustainable.
Mike Novogratz, Mel Carter and David Barry? They serve up some major life advice along the way. It’s a must-listen if you’re all about bossing up and living your best life!
Let’s get you caught up with the news of the day.
THE WHITE HOUSE
Biden will host a lunch with Secretary of State Antony Blinken this afternoon at the White House.
The White House has been vocal this morning regarding the state of the play, or rather, the impasse on Capitol Hill.
“House Republicans are yet again putting politics ahead of national security – siding with Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Tehran, against America’s defense industrial base, against NATO, against Ukraine, and against our interests in the Indo-Pacific,” stated Andrew Bates.
“It’s time for the Speaker to allow a vote.”
ON THE HILL
The $95 billion aid package for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, which the Senate passed yesterday, appears to be stalled. Speaker Johnson stated that he has no intention of bringing it to the House floor.
The critical issue now is how long the White House can maintain cohesion, and whether resistance in the House will excel ceasefire plans and peace negotiations in both Ukraine and Gaza.
The House vote to impeach Mayorkas on Tuesday evening makes him the first Cabinet secretary to face impeachment in nearly 150 years.
“Alejandro Mayorkas deserves to be impeached,” Speaker Johnson declared, citing a “constitutional obligation” for Congress to act. Johnson underscored the gravity of impeachment, likening it to a declaration of war, and stressed that the House had approached the matter with appropriate solemnity.
“The baseless impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas does nothing to fix the situation at our Southern border or our broken immigration system. This political stunt was ordered by Marjorie Taylor Greene and Donald Trump and pursued by extreme MAGA Republicans in the House despite not having a shred of evidence that an impeachable offense was committed,” stated Hakeem Jeffries.
GLOBAL AFFAIRS
Blinken is set to depart this evening for a two-stop diplomatic trip to Albania and Munich.
