Good Morning DC,
Former President Trump has reacted to the explosive January 6 testimony from a junior staffer Hutchinson Cassidy.
Trump said a former aide to White House chief of staff Mark Meadows “made up phony and completely outrageous stories, the craziest of which has already been proven to be a complete lie.”
Both Bobby Engel, the lead Secret Service agent and the driver of the presidential limousine, say that Hutchinson’s story was not true and that they are willing to testify under oath.
Hutchinson Cassidy said Meadows’ deputy told her about the incident shortly after it happened.
It is unclear at this point why would January 6 Committee put on a stand a secondhand testimony instead of the actors with first-hand knowledge of the events?

NATO SUMMIT
The first day of meetings at the NATO Summit is underway.
This morning in Madrid, President Biden was greeted by NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg.
Biden deems this year’s summit one of the most important and “historic” NATO summits ever and said that the alliance was committed to “defending every inch” of its territory.
He praised the steps of Finland and Sweden in entering the military alliance, saying, “NATO is more needed now than it ever has been.”
As previewed yesterday, Biden unveiled an enhanced US force posture in Europe and committed to increasing the number of troops stationed here from its current levels.
Among the nations singled out by President Biden that would receive additional troops and resources: Spain, Poland, Romania, and the Baltic states.
Referring to Russia, Biden said that NATO would be “ready for threats in all directions.”
Jens Stoltenberg said that Finland and Sweden’s entry shows that NATO’s “door is open.” He added that Putin wanted “less NATO” but is getting “more NATO.”
Biden’s meeting with Erdogan, the most anticipated meeting of the day, will take place today.
