Good Morning DC!

It’s Friday, and the flood of grim news has been overwhelming for the past two weeks. What’s equally concerning is that the capacity for an intellectual dialog has been scraped away, and the word “traitor” has been casually applied to any academic, foreign affairs expert (Henry Kissinger, George Kennen, Noam Chomsky, Mearsheimer etc.) who was warning the global community for years of what the NATO eastern expansion can bring to bear.

Casting dissent as disloyalty closes up the door to an in-depth debate on any aspect of foreign affairs and its complexities.

FOREIGN AFFAIRS

The UN Security Council will meet today regarding Russian government claims of US military biological activities in Ukraine. The US and Ukraine deny the existence of any kind of biological weapons program.

Psaki said, “This is all an obvious ploy by Russia to try to justify its further premeditated, unprovoked, and unjustified attack on Ukraine.”

Referring to the existence of biolabs in Ukraine, Zelenskyy said that they are focused on “ordinary science – not military technology,” and that “no chemical or any other weapons of mass destruction were developed” in Ukraine.

The latest satellite images by Maxar Technologies indicate that Russian troops are getting into position around Kiev.

Meta, also known as Facebook and Instagram, will allow users to call for violence against Putin and Russian soldiers. The social network has now officially become a political actor, and it is reasonable to expect that this will extend to any new conflict in the future years.

Across the pond, in the UK, Chelsea FC has plunged into chaos on its 117th birthday with the possibility of running out the cash in the next 17 days. Due to UK sanctions against Abramovich, Chelsea cannot sell the players, tickets, and merchandise.

And that’s a wrap for this Friday morning, March 11 2022. Good Morning DC will be back on Monday to bring you the latest first.
