Good Morning DC!

On this day in 1865, the Congress passed the 13th Amendment to abolish slavery in the United States of America.

DEVELOPING THIS MORNING:

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson received Sue Gray report into partygate this morning ahead of expected public release today.

On Sunday, as Marine One was getting ready to depart for the National Governors Association’s Black Tie Dinner, Biden and Jill emerged from the Residence at 5:28 PM. They were holding hands, their black-tie garments peeking out from underneath their overcoats. Jill was said to be wearing Dior slingbacks. As the shouted questions about the Supreme Court and Donald Trump broke the air, Biden gave subtle indications that he heard the questions, but ultimately ignored any temptation to respond as he made his way across the South Lawn. Marine One took off at 5:33 PM.

President Trump made headlines over the weekend at his MAGA rally in Texas. “If I run and if I win, we will treat those people from January 6th fairly,” Trump said. “And if it requires pardons, we will give them pardons, because they are being treated so unfairly.”  (Watch

On Sunday, on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) called his comments “inappropriate” He added,”I don’t want to reinforce that defiling the Capitol was okay. I don’t want to do anything that would make this more likely in the future.”

As AT&T dropped OAN, Trump issued a statement calling for the boycott of DirectTV and Comcast. “AT&T is closing the very popular One America News Network (OAN) because too many people are watching. They couldn’t put up with that any longer. Conservatives/Republicans should boycott Direct TV, and “While you’re at it, Comcast’s Xfinity as well. These are Radical Left Lunatics who are destroying our Nation!”

Then, there’s more. Trump issued a statement about Mike Pence.

“If the Vice President (Mike Pence) had “absolutely no right” to change the Presidential Election results in the Senate, despite fraud and many other irregularities, how come the Democrats and RINO Republicans, like Wacky Susan Collins, are desperately trying to pass legislation that will not allow the Vice President to change the results of the election?,” Trump said. “ Actually, what they are saying, is that Mike Pence did have the right to change the outcome, and they now want to take that right away. Unfortunately, he didn’t exercise that power, he could have overturned the Election!”

The UN security council will meet today in New York regarding the situation in Ukraine.

Across the pond, in the UK, Boris Johnson has ordered a military build-up in eastern Europe. He warned Putin that Britain and her allies will not tolerate Russian threats. In a move designed “to send a clear message,” the Prime Minister confirmed the significant deployment of troops, gunships, missile systems and vessels to Estonia and Poland. Britain already has a permanent military force in the region as part of Nato’s Enhanced Forward Presence. No. 10 said the UK could involve sending defensive weapons to Estonia: Fast jets, warships and military specialists. RAF jets will be sent to Cyprus to patrol Romanian and Bulgarian air space.  A Royal Navy Type 45 destroyer and patrol vessel will be sent to the Black Sea and rocket launchers deployed in Estonia. Several Apache attack helicopters will also be sent to the Baltic.
