Happy Sunday!

DAS Gabriel Escobar has gone on record this week in an interview with VoA expressing concern over PM Albin Kurti’s undermining of EU-led dialogue and regional stability in the Western Balkans.

The Pavlovic Today has reported that Albin Kurti has been losing support in the Biden administration. While the State Department has not yet officially announced consequences for the unilateral actions and lack of cooperation by Kosovo’s PM, options have been laid out on the table.

The first step, as Matt Miller recently told the Pavlovic Today, will be taken through diplomacy.

“We will continue to engage in diplomacy to resolve this matter. And we want both sides to return to the EU-facilitated dialogue, and beyond that, I don’t want to preview any specific steps from here,” said Miller.

So far, the most that has come out of Secretary Blinken is that the US supports the EU-led dialogue for Belgrade and Pristina and that this is the “only” path.

However, with Biden’s first term coming to a close this year, it can be expected that pressure on Pristina will accelerate.

In the meantime, the Serbian-American community in the US is strengthening its bonds.

Mayor Eric Adams has designated February 26 as Serbian Heritage Day in New York City, recognizing and honoring the invaluable contributions of the Serbian-American community in pursuing their American dream. This proclamation sets the stage for a momentous Serbian flag ceremony to be held at Bowling Green Park this coming Monday.

The announcement extends a warm invitation to all New Yorkers to join in the festivities beginning at 10 am on February 26. Adding to the significance of the occasion, Consul General Vladimir Božović of the Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia will stand alongside Mayor Adams during the flag-raising ceremony.

This marks a monumental moment as it is the first time that Serbian Heritage Day is officially proclaimed in New York City, and the Serbian flag will be ceremoniously raised in the presence of both Adams and Bozovic.

Every Sunday, The Balkan Voice Newsletter will be brining you an insider’s perspective on US policy toward the Western Balkans, featuring weekly coverage, State Department briefings, exclusive interviews, and more.
