Melania Trump and Karen Pence about to arrive at Red Cross.
Greetings from American Red Cross Headquarters!
Some background on today as we await the arrival of FLOTUS and SLOTUS. First lady Melania Trump and second lady Karen Pence, along with TBD Cabinet spouses, military families and volunteers, are here assemble comfort kits for troops deployed overseas during the holidays. Troops in Romania, Poland, Djibouti, Iraq and Kuwait will be the recipients of today’s comfort kits, according to a Red Cross press liaison.
While the Red Cross does comfort kits all year long, however, these are specially designated for the holidays. Fun fact: the American Red Cross in 2019 “distributed more than 653,000 care, comfort and therapy items at military hospitals and medical facilities,” according to a “how we helped” fact sheet distributed in the media holding room.
This will be the second year that Mrs. Trump and Mrs. Pence have participated in this event. Today’s kits – which I will specifically outline when we get upstairs and have a chance to see them in person – will include several personal hygiene items, as well as games like playing cards, and snacks.
