Democratic leaders Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer are presenting a united front against what they describe as the “largest Medicaid cut in American history,” as they rally support for their National Day of Action to Protect Medicaid.

In a joint statement, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer condemned Republican efforts to reduce Medicaid funding, vowing to fight back against what they framed as an attack on vulnerable Americans.

“Across the country, Democrats are leading the fight to oppose the largest Medicaid cut in American history,” they said. “Our National Day of Action to Protect Medicaid will push back against the extreme Republican budget that they are trying to jam down the throats of the American people.”

The initiative includes events across the country aimed at highlighting the potential consequences of the Republican proposal, with an emphasis on the impact on children, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities.

“At events in communities throughout the country, everyday Americans will speak out against the Republican scheme to rip away health care from children, seniors, veterans and people with disabilities,” the statement continued.

The Democratic leaders framed the debate as a fight between public interest and corporate influence.

“Democrats stand on the side of the American people. Republicans are doing the bidding of their billionaire donors and wealthy corporations. We are in this fight until we win this fight.”
