In a joint statement issued on Wednesday, Speaker Johnson, Majority Leader Scalise, Majority Whip Emmer, and Conference Chairwoman Stefanik announced the formal commencement of an impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden. House Republicans characterized this move as a “critical step” in investigating “serious matters” involving the President.

GOP House leaders asserted that President Biden has persistently “stonewalled lawful Congressional subpoenas,” and they emphasized that the recent vote in the full House of Representatives authorizing the impeachment inquiry positions them strongly to enforce these subpoenas in court.

The statement detailed key aspects of the investigation, pointing to witness testimony and bank records allegedly revealing substantial funds flowing to the Biden family from foreign adversaries. Witnesses have purportedly testified about the President’s numerous interactions with his family’s foreign clients. House leaders accused President Biden and the White House of consistently misleading the public, shifting the goalposts, and obstructing the ongoing investigation.

“As Chairmen Comer, Jordan and Smith have done all along, we will continue to follow the facts where they lead. The American people deserve answers. This impeachment inquiry will help us find them.”

President Biden responded to the impeachment inquiry by stating that the Republicans are leveling lies against him. “Instead of doing their job on the urgent work that needs to be done, they are choosing to waste time on this baseless political stunt that even Republicans in Congress admit is not supported by facts,” the President stated.
