Good Morning DC. “Contract with America” is having a comeback with President Trump.

Good Morning DC! It’s Thursday, and the President is going to Cleveland, Ohio, where he will deliver remarks on the economy.

Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre delivered the White House Press Briefing yesterday as the second Black woman to lead a press briefing and the first in roughly three decades. Judy Smith, the deputy press secretary to George H.W. Bush and an inspiration for the Olivia Pope character on Scandal, was first. The two took a picture together in what was described as a “historic moment” in America.

A worker for Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) opened fire at a light rail yard in San Jose yesterday, killing eight people and leaving several others wounded.VP Harris noted she has family that lives in San Jose. Biden issued a call to Congress to act to end gun violence in America. “Every life that is taken by a bullet pierces the soul of our nation. We can, and we must, do more,” said the President.

Mother of Brian Sicknick urged political leaders yesterday to pass the January 6 bill. “I suggest that all Congressmen and Senators who are against this Bill visit my son’s grave in Arlington National Cemetery and, while there, think about what their hurtful decisions will do to those officers who will be there for them going forward,” she said in a statement.

Newt Gingrich‘s Contract with America is having a comeback with President Trump, who wants to focus on the area he and his team could never concentrate on: policy. Trump is determined to get his rallies going in June, given that President Biden will be in Europe at that time.

Blinken will travel on June 1-2 to San José, Costa Rica, where he will meet with senior leaders from Central America, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.

Across the pond, Dominic Cummings is the bombshell of the day. His attack on Prime Minister Johnson and Carrie Symonds was full of vitriol and unprecedented for someone who held the title “trusted advisor.” In a seven-hour testimony, Cummings described the incompetence and lack of compassion and organization in the British government during the pandemic. Asked if Prime Minister Johnson was the right person to lead the country during the Coronavirus crisis, Cummings replied a simple, “No.”

Cummings threw Johnson under the bus. As much as damaging for the Prime Minister, it will be more damaging for Cummings. After this, no one will want to hire him and let him into an inner circle of politics ever again.
