Good Morning, DC! It’s Friday, and across the pond, Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh has died at Windsor Castle aged 99.
Biden took executive action on gun control with a caveat that “we’ve got a long way to go.”
America is moving forward toward common-sense gun violence prevention.
In an interview with CNN, Senator Manchin said that January 6th changed him. “I never thought in my life, I never read in history books to where our form of government had been attacked, at our seat of government, which is Washington, DC, at our Capitol, by our own people,” Manchin said,
He discussed his role as a power broker, making a promise that he is “not killing the filibuster. I’ve been very, very clear.”
He said that with all the changes Democrats want to make, the parties should work toward the middle ground.
“I think we can find a path forward,” he said, commenting on the deep political polarization in America.
More legal trouble is coming for Matt Gaetz. Greenberg, an associate of Gaetz, indicted on 33 counts, is likely to strike a plea deal. The two were friends who have now turned into frenemies: a common theme in Trump’s inner circle. Investigators believe Greenberg was engaged in sex trafficking, and they are scrutinizing a trip Gaetz took to the Bahamas and whether he violated sex trafficking laws.
Greenberg’s attorney said, “I’m sure Matt Gaetz is not feeling very comfortable today.”
DC insiders believe that investigators have something on Greenberg and that a plea deal signals that he already showed that he has information that may incriminate Gaetz.
“Matt Gaetz needs to resign,” tweeted Congressman Adam Kinzinger, a GOP leadership contender post-Trump.
Trump announced his endorsement of Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin. “He is brave, he is bold, he loves our Country, our Military, and our Vets. He will protect our Second Amendment and everything else we stand for. It is the kind of courage we need in the U.S. Senate,” Trump said adding, “He has no idea how popular he is. Run, Ron, Run!”
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced a lawsuit yesterday against the CDC and the federal government. He demands that cruise liners be able to operate again. In response, Florida’s Attorney General said the suit was filed this morning against those entities and HHS, pushing to have the government’s conditional sale order declared unlawful.
What’s the White House response?
“We don’t have a direct response to a lawsuit nor a comment on a specific legal action,” said Psaki. “But,” she continued, “I will just reiterate that the CDC guidance is based on data and health and medical guidelines, hence that’s why they put it out and why they regularly update it.”
