It’s Friday so I will keep it short. At 2:15 p.m. today, President Biden will deliver remarks on the COVID-19 response and the vaccination program from the State Dining Room. After that, he will depart to Wilmington, Delaware where he will remain over the weekend.
President Biden and his team announced on Thursday a potential new form of fighting Covid-19, the pill. The Biden administration laid out a $3.2 billion plan to create a type of drug which can fight against Covid-19 and other possible diseases. The plan is named the Antiviral Program for Pandemics and will start working on testing and clinical trials by creating new ways to combat Covid-19.
Secretary Blinken spoke with former President Jimmy Carter yesterday about Nicaragua. They welcomed the strong June 15 vote at the Organization of American States Permanent Council, to send a message that Ortega and Murillo’s actions are unacceptable.
The House of Representatives voted to repeal the 2002 Israel war powers authorization which allowed US military forces to be used in Iraq. This reversal is something many Democrats have advocated for and attempted to achieve for many years. It passed 262-161 in the House and resulted in some bipartisan support – 49 Republicans voted with the Democrats to oppose the authorization
The Senate will convene on Monday, June 21st at 3:00 p.m. to consider the nomination of Christopher Fonzone to be General Counsel of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. The vote is planned for 5:30 pm.
