Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries announced that his father, Marland Jeffries, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, December 31, 2023, at the age of 85. In a press statement, Jeffries conveyed that his father died peacefully in his sleep.
Survived by his wife of 56 years, Laneda, two sons, five grandchildren, and a brother, Marland Jeffries was a distinguished graduate of Central State University in Ohio and Columbia University in New York. As a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., his presence will be dearly missed.
“Those who love him are thankful for the full life that he lived. The Jeffries family requests privacy at this time,” stated Leader Jeffries. “May God bless and watch over your family and loved ones in 2024.”
Marland Jeffries will be missed by the Sterling Place Civic Association, for the block in North Crown Heights where he lived & supported historic preservation.
It was an honor and a privilege to serve as commander of the Dayton National Cemetery Honor Squad alongside DOD in providing Full Military Honors to Mr. Jeffries. He received a ceremonial rifle salute and live Taps rendered by our bugler.He served his country honorably & faithfully.
