Mythily Krishnan journals her experience on the green carpet of the Bollywood glamourama at IIFA.
Pouring rain almost completely ruined the green carpet plans at IIFA Rocks, but at least the show went on. The event was hosted by Riteish Deshmukh and Manish Paul.
Celebrities walked the green carpet briefly, showcasing their beautiful smiles for the flashing bulbs. Although it was not a full blown “Green Carpet,” photographers were running back and forth in attempts to try and get the celebrities’ attention.
Female stars gracefully glided across the carpet. Adorned in beautiful evening gowns, they slowly approached their special entrance. While none of the female stars wore traditional sarees, Taapsee Pannu and Katrina Kaif went for an east-meets-west look. Taapsee adorned herself with two fresh red roses in her hair and a stunning red bindi on her forehead. Katrina Kaif went for the classic red and gold combination for her entire ensemble. Everything from her hair down to her shoes coordinated in the most elegant and extravagant way.

Karan Johar styled himself in a red velvet jacket, while Saif Ali Khan strove for a simpler suit, not aiming for a look of opulence. As Saif Ali Khan is making a comeback as an awards show host, he has got everyone’s expectations high from IIFA awards night.
At the green carpet of IIFA Rocks 2017, Saif Ali Khan revealed to the Pavlovic Today, “I am hosting after a long time. KJo and I have worked a lot on the script and tried to make it interesting and quite funny. We’ll make fun of ourselves and a bit of others too. It’s a huge stadium, a lot of people will be there and the whole world will watch the program. I am sure they will like it.”
The second day of the festival IIFA Rocks celebrated the journey of AR Rahman in the film industry. AR Rahman got famous for the Slum Dog Millionaire movie’s songs. He received two Oscars for his work and gave an absolutely scintillating performance. He enthralled the audience with a never-seen-before medley of musicians including himself, Hariharan, Javed Ali, Jonita Gandhi, Benny Dayal, Diljit Dosanjh, Neeti Mohan, Kailash Kher, and Haricharan Seshadri. His song selections contrasted with those he played at his latest London gig. The song list for the evening comprised Hindi and Tamil songs.but the audiences in the USA, unlike in London, said: “music is music, language has no barrier.” Notable tracks Rahman played was his Oscar-winning song Jai Ho, Dil Se, Kinna Sona, Tu Hi Re, Maiyya Maiyya, and much more.
Everyone has a different opinion on who they think should win at the IIFA Awards 2017. While some believe Ranbir Kapoor should win Best Actor for Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, few think that the two Khans, Shah Rukh and Salman, deserves a chance for doing “different” roles in Fan and Sultan respectively.
There’s also strong debate about who between Sonam Kapoor and Alia Bhatt deserves to win the Best Actress award. Sonam has been nominated for Neerja, while Alia Bhatt has two nominations, for Dear Zindagi and Udta Punjab. Let’s wait and see what the third grand big day of the Indian film festival has in store.
