President Joe Biden engaged in a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday, extending congratulations on the occasion of Ukraine’s Independence Day. Amid the backdrop of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the leaders discussed matters of strategic importance.
The call comes as Ukraine marks eighteen months since the commencement of the war. During the call, President Biden reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering commitment to bolstering Ukraine’s defense in the face of Russian aggression.
President Biden stated that the United States stands firmly alongside Ukraine and will continue to provide support for its defense efforts for “as long as it takes.”
One focal point of the conversation was the initiation of training for Ukrainian fighter jet pilots. The call touched upon the expeditious approval process for other nations to transfer their F-16 aircraft to Ukraine following the successful completion of training.
