In remarks delivered from the State Dining Room on Tuesday, President Biden lauded the border deal reached in the Senate while rebuking House Republicans for promptly discarding it. He attributed blame to Donald Trump, stating, “He’d rather have the issue than solve it.”

Biden asserted that members of Congress “owe it to the American people to show some spine,” emphasizing that the compromise would enhance border control, rendering it more orderly, more humane, and more secure.

Addressing the situation in Ukraine, the President described it as “dire,” emphasizing that “The clock is ticking” and “the world is watching.” He framed support for the bill as “standing up to Putin,” cautioning Republicans that “this critical moment will never be forgotten” and pledging to advocate for his stance on both the border and Ukraine nationwide. “If this bill fails, the American people will know why it failed,” he added.

Regarding Republican priorities, Biden queried, “who do they serve? Donald Trump or the American people?” He reaffirmed his commitment to solving problems for America stating, “I serve the American people. I’m here to solve problems.”

The President ended up responding to some shouted inquiries. On efforts to secure the release of hostages in Gaza, he remarked, “there is some movement… There’s been a response from the opposition. But it seems to be a little over the top,” clarifying that by “opposition” he meant Hamas.

When asked about aiding Israel through a separate bill, he stated he was not yet prepared to concede to such a measure.
