For the first time in more than thirty years, Serbia and Canada are once again linked by a direct air service. Air Serbia has commenced flights between Belgrade and Toronto, marking a significant new chapter in the national airline’s expanding intercontinental network.

The new route will operate twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, using Airbus A330-200 aircraft from Air Serbia’s fleet. Toronto becomes the airline’s third destination in North America, joining New York and Chicago, and further reinforces Belgrade’s role as an increasingly important hub between Europe and North America.

The inaugural departure from Belgrade was marked with a ceremonial send-off attended by representatives of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the Embassy of Canada in the Republic of Serbia, Air Serbia officials, partners, associates, and members of the media.

“After more than three decades, we are once again introducing a direct air route between Belgrade and Toronto, which represents a significant symbolic and strategic step forward for our company,” said Jiri Marek, CEO of Air Serbia. “Toronto is our third destination in North America, alongside New York and Chicago, further strengthening our intercontinental presence and contributing to the development of Belgrade as an important hub connecting Europe and North America.”

Beyond its commercial significance, the route carries particular resonance for the Serbian diaspora in Canada. Toronto is home to a large community of people of Serbian origin, and the direct service responds to a long-standing need for a more convenient connection between the two cities.

“This route connects not only two countries, but also families, communities, and cultures,” Marek added. “At the same time, it enables stronger development of business and tourism activity, as well as convenient onward connections for passengers from Canada to numerous destinations across the region and Europe via Belgrade.”

According to Air Serbia, strong passenger interest and high cabin load factors on the flights underline the importance of the route and affirm it as a carefully considered strategic decision. The new service is expected to further strengthen Serbia’s connectivity with North America while supporting business, tourism, and wider economic development.

With the launch of Toronto, Air Serbia continues to expand its destination network and strengthen its position in the global aviation market, while contributing to Serbia’s broader economic and tourism growth.

For passengers in Serbia, Canada, and beyond, the return of the Belgrade–Toronto route is more than booking a new flight; it is an invitation to travel, reconnect, and rediscover the ties that bring two continents closer together.
