President Donald Trump said Wednesday he intends to posthumously award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, who was assassinated during an event in Utah.
Speaking briefly to reporters after leaving the Pentagon Chapel, Trump called Kirk “a great guy” and said he would reach out to the Kirk family later in the day.
“You don’t replace a Charlie Kirk. He was unique,” Trump told the press pool.
The president said he had been receiving updates on the search for Kirk’s killer. “They have a virtual manhunt out there. So we’ll see what happens. We hope you get them,” Trump added.
