Last night, President Joe Biden spoke by phone with Clearwater, Florida Mayor Bruce Rector and Pinellas County Chairwoman Kathleen Peters to discuss ongoing preparations for Hurricane Milton. According to the White House, Biden assured both officials that they can contact him directly if further assistance is needed for response and recovery efforts.

Hurricane Milton has weakened from a Category 5 to a Category 4 storm since this morning, with sustained winds of 155 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). Despite the downgrade, the NHC cautioned that Milton is “expected to remain an extremely dangerous major hurricane when it reaches the west-central coast of Florida tonight.”

As of 8 a.m. ET, Hurricane Milton was located 250 miles southwest of Tampa, with sustained winds of 155 mph, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) reported. Moving northeast at 16 mph, Milton remains a powerful Category 4 storm and is expected to make landfall on Florida’s west-central coast overnight Wednesday.

Residents are advised to rush preparations to completion this morning, including evacuating if instructed by local authorities.
