Donald Trump said in Davos on Wednesday that he is seeking “immediate negotiations” to open discussions on the acquisition of Greenland by the United States.
Speaking during his address, Trump framed the move as a continuation of longstanding American strategy, arguing that Washington has, for “hundreds of years,” acted to prevent outside threats from entering the Western Hemisphere.

“After the war, we gave Greenland back to Denmark. How stupid were we to do that? But we did it. But we gave it back. But how ungrateful are they now?”, said Trump.
Trump says he won’t not use force in securing Greenland from Denmark.
“We probably won’t get anything unless I decide to use excessive strength and force where we would be, frankly, unstoppable. But I won’t do that.”
Present said he is asking “for a piece of ice” for world protection.
“What I’m asking for is a piece of ice, cold and poorly located, that can play a vital role in world peace and world protection. It’s a very small ask compared to what we have given them for many, many decades,” said Trump.
Trump said that Denmark and Europe now have a choice.
“You can say Yes and we will be very appreciative, or you can say No, and we will remember,” Trump said.
“All we’re asking for is to get Greenland, including right title and ownership, because you need the ownership to defend it,” he said. “You can’t defend it on a lease.”
