President Donald Trump is expected to use Tuesday’s State of the Union to highlight his first-year record. The speech slated for 9 pm ET comes ahead of the midterm elections, with Republicans defending narrow control of Congress.

Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, will attend the State of the Union as a special guest of Donald Trump, according to White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. Trump is expected to use the moment to urge Congress to reject political violence, said Leavitt.

Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger will deliver Democratic response to Trump’s speech.
A significant number of Democrats are expected to boycott the State of the Union, with at least 30 lawmakers opting instead to take part in a “People’s State of the Union” event on the National Mall as an alternative gathering.
What the White House is saying about the Left:
“Tonight, while President Trump highlights the successes of his America First agenda in slashing costs, revitalizing manufacturing, securing our borders, and delivering real relief — Spanberger’s response will only underscore her party’s commitment to the failed lunacy Americans rejected,” the White House said in a statement.
“Americans deserve better than the Radical Left’s vision of higher taxes, weaker borders, and divisive ideology. While Spanberger and Democrats stand firmly in opposition to prosperity, President Trump is delivering real results for all Americans.”

Speaker Johnson on the State of the Union

“President Trump will demonstrate that Republicans are the only team working seriously to bring common sense back to our broken system. Its promises made promises kept. And he’s working, and we’re all working together, to make the country stronger, safer more affordable, and more prosperous for all Americans, and many of them will be represented in that that big beautiful gallery tonight,” said Johnson. “The American people will see that reflected this evening and in the months ahead as we press forward on all of those promises and so much more. We’re excited; it’s a great time for America.”
