Good Morning DC,

Everyone wants to be a Ministry of Truth these days. PayPal announced a new policy to fine “misinformation,” which, unlike “disinformation,” does not have intent. Once the PR crisis exploded in their face, PayPal walked back its thought policing, claiming it was published “in error.”

All right PayPal, let me ask you this: Was it also “in error” when last month in the UK, you suspended the account of the Free Speech Union founder, Toby Young, over his views on gender policy and the COVID-19 vaccination?

Business Secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg stepped in to say that PayPal is in the cancel culture business and is “pushing” its political opinions on the British public. This news, however, did not reach the United States.

The corporate sector has been massively overreaching since the last election. Hunter Biden story was blocked and Twitter claimed it was disinformation, the same story that even the New York Times now considers true.

This and Pay Pal example show that taking on the role of the Ministry of Truth is never a good idea.
