Adele won the first-ever genderless award for artist of the year at the Brit Awards last night. “I understand why this has changed, but I really love being a woman and a female artist. I’m really proud of us,” said Adele.

THE WHITE HOUSE

Today, the President will participate in a roundtable with CEOs of electric utility companies to discuss his Build Back Better agenda. The conversation will focus on future economic growth and the making of long-term investments that will combat the climate crisis, increase competitiveness, and protect the US electrical grid from extreme weather events.

First Lady Jill Biden and the US Secretary of Health and Human Services, Xavier Becerra, will be in Minneapolis, Minnesota. There, they will tour the University of Minnesota and highlight the American Rescue Plan’s investments in child care. 

The RNC declared what happened on January 6th as “legitimate political discourse” which caused a reaction from Democrats on the Hill. Congressman Hakeem Jeffries said the “C” in “RNC” stands for “cult.”  Psaki reacted, as well, to the RNC’s interpretation of the day, saying, “It’s clear to Americans that what happened on January 6th was not ‘legitimate political discourse.’”  

Biden said the US has been behind Beijing in developing EVs. Elon Musk’s response was simple: “Tesla”

DIGITAL ASSETS

The DOJ has announced the recovery of $3.6 billion worth of Bitcoin stolen during the 2016 Bitfinex hack. The two people, Ilya Lichtenstein, 34, and his wife, Heather Morgan, 31, both of New York, New York, were arrested for conspiring to launder the proceeds of 119,754 bitcoin that were stolen from Bitfinex’s platform after a hacker breached Bitfinex’s systems and initiated more than 2,000 unauthorized transactions. “In a methodical and calculated scheme, the defendants allegedly laundered and disguised their vast fortune,” said Chief Jim Lee of IRS-Criminal Investigation (IRS-CI).

On Russia’s thinking regarding military action against Ukraine, Psaki says that the Biden administration does not have “any new information or new prediction about where President Putin’s head is.”

Across the pond, as the survival of PM Boris Johnson gets more likely with each government reshuffle he is making by offering big roles to his loyalists, Jacob Rees-Mogg has a new role in the UK government as the minister for Brexit opportunities, and Chris Heaton-Harris is the new chief whip. Mark Spencer replaced Rees-Mogg as leader of the Commons.

Billionaire John Armitage, one of the biggest donors to the Conservative Party, has called for Boris Johnson to resign.
