Good Morning DC,

Mayor of NYC Eric Adams has penned a new OpEd featured in The Pavlovic Today.

“Growing up on the edge of homelessness, my siblings and I had to take trash bags full of clothes to school because we didn’t know where we would sleep the next night. No child should have to feel that way. You cannot plan for the future if you are worried about today,” writes Adams advocating for affordable housing in NYC.

Let’s get you caught up with the news of the day.

Biden disclosed details of his 2023 tax return. The Bidens reported an income of $619,976 and paid $146,629 in income tax at a rate of 23.7 percent.

Today, the President is heading to his hometown Scranton in Pennsylvania where he will attend two campaign events.

The first day of Trump’s criminal trial in NYC begun with Trump expressing his frustration.

“It’s a scam. It’s a political witch-hunt. It continues, and it continues forever. And we’re not going to be given a fair trial. It’s a very, very sad thing,” Trump said outside the courtroom.

The former President has expressed concern about missing his son’s graduation ceremony and has asked the Judge to grant him permission to attend.

“As you know, my son is graduating from high school and it looks like the judge will not let me go to the graduation of my son,” Trump said. “I was looking forward to that graduation, with his mother and father there, and it looks like the judge does not allow me to escape this scam.”

Trump characterized the New York trial a “political persecution” and
“assault on America.” He noted, though, that he is “proud” to be at a New York court.

The Pavlovic Today reported early on in the primaries that Tim Scott is likely to be Trump’s pick.

“I think Tim Scott would be a remarkable choice,” said McCarthy during his speech on Monday at the American Health Association meeting.

“There has only been one Black American elected to Congress and to the Senate, to the House and the Senate. That’s Tim Scott. And Tim Scott raises a whole different dynamic,” noted McCarthy.

“If I was to advise him, I’d look to Tim and Nicky if you want to win. If you want to pick someone that’s not going to argue with you, there’s a lot of people to pick. If you want to pick somebody that is just like you, that’s really not adding to the ticket,” he added.

Former UK PM Liz Truss has endorsed Trump by saying that the world has been much safer under his leadership.

With less than seven months remaining until election day, President Biden will be on the campaign trail today in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The focal point of his address is poised to center on a question: Do you think the tax code should work for rich people or for the middle class?

“Trump and his MAGA allies have an uphill battle in Pennsylvania. In 2018, 2020, and 2022, MAGA Republicans have suffered embarrassing losses at the top of the ticket. This is in large part due to the fact that Trump’s brand of extremism is toxic in the collar counties around Philadelphia, which are crucial to winning any statewide election in Pennsylvania,” stated Julie Rodriguez, Biden campaign manager.

The House passed in a bipartisan vote Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).  “We encourage the Senate to swiftly pass this bill before the authority expires on April 19,” said Jake Sullivan.

Hakeem Jeffries, in his Dear Colleague letter has invoked the spirit of Churchill calling on the US Congress to act “immediately” and pass the national security supplemental.

Speaker Johnson is looking for a way to pass the aid for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan through four separate bills under one procedural rule.

Marjorie Taylor Greene  has filed a motion to vacate Mike Johnson.

“I don’t spend my time worrying about motions to vacate,” Johnson told the press. “We’re having to govern here and we’re going to do our job. I’m not sure how that shakes out.”

House Republicans are poised to introduce the articles of impeachment against Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to the Senate. The vote will determine whether to table or dismiss the trial.

Israel, despite Biden’s plea not to, is going to respond to Iran’s attack.

Iran issued a warning this morning to US, France, the UK and Germany promising even a stronger response if Israel retaliates.

“We remind the heads of state of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Germany to stop supporting the declining child-killing terrorist regime of Israel. The Islamic Republic of Iran has proven that it is not a warmonger and does not seek to spread the war. The response will be stronger if the regime carries out more severe aggressive act,” stated Brig Gen Abolfazl Shekarchi.

Addressing the House of Commons on Monday, UK PM Sunak said he  is working with allies to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.

“We want to see calmer heads prevail, and we are directing all our diplomatic efforts to that end. Yesterday, I spoke to my fellow G7 leaders. We are united in our condemnation of this attack. We discussed further potential diplomatic measures which we will be working together to coordinate in the coming days.”

To calm the situation, UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron will fly to Israel and try to reason with the leadership.
