Donald Trump has once again trained his sights on Volodymyr Zelenskyy, criticizing the Ukrainian president of prolonging the end of war with Russia. In a statement posted on Truth Social, U.S. president declared that Zelenskyy had made “the worst statement that could have been made” by stating that an end to the conflict is “very, very far away.”
Trump noted that this is exactly what he meant when the signing of the rare minerals deal was cut short due to a heated exchange between the two leaders. He pointed to the incident as proof of his initial conclusion that Zelenskyy is “not ready” for peace.
“It is what I was saying, this guy doesn’t want there to be peace as long as he has America’s backing,”
It’s hardly a new position from Trump, who has made no secret of his disdain for Washington’s blank-check approach to Ukraine. As European leaders attempt to get Zelenskyy back on track with Trump, America’s patience is wearing thin.
In his statement on Sunday, Zelenskyy said he is “grateful” for American support in an attempt to reinforce his message to the White House. So far, he has not issued a public apology to Trump, which the U.S. president sees as a necessary step for Zelenskyy to return to the White House.
