Today marks the beginning of the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago, a pivotal day for the party that has chosen Vice President Kamala Harris to replace President Joe Biden on the 2024 ticket. The first day of four-night event, billed as “For the People,” will feature a historic speech from the outgoing president, during which Biden is expected to outline why the nation should elect his vice president, Kamala Harris.
The event, which begins Monday, will continue with a series of thematic days and word in Democratic circles suggests it could include performances by BeyoncĂ© and Taylor Swift. Tuesday, August 20, will focus on “A Bold Vision for America’s Future.” Wednesday, August 21, is centered around “A Fight for Our Freedoms,” and the final day, Thursday, August 22, will conclude with a program titled “For Our Future.”
Democrats will aim to emphasize that they inherited one of the worst situations from the previous administration, particularly in the areas of public health, the state of democracy, and the economy.
“Our convention is an opportunity to bring the story of our party to the American people — not just the story of what we’ve achieved under the Biden-Harris administration, but how the Harris-Walz ticket is planning to build on that historic record for a new way forward into the future,” said Convention Chair Minyon Moore.Â
2024 Democratic National Convention will focus on drawing a clear contrast between the Democratic and Republican visions for America. Under the theme “For the People,” Democrats will spotlight the Biden administration’s achievements. President Joe Biden will emphasize his successes, reminding voters of the progress made under the Biden-Harris administration. In his speech, Biden is expected to highlight a list of accomplishments and frame himself as a statesman who always prioritized America’s interests over politics. Party leaders will position Biden as a leader focused not just on the next election, but on the next generation.
On the same days as Joe Biden, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is scheduled to deliver a speech in support of Kamala Harris. According to DNC insiders, Clinton and Harris are on friendly terms, and Clinton is expected to emphasize the historical significance of voting for Harris at this particular moment for America. Former President Barack Obama will headline Tuesday’s events, with Walz taking center stage on Wednesday. The grand finale on Thursday night will spotlight Kamala Harris.
Harris has garnered significant media attention since Biden announced he is stepping down from the race, leading to a surge in the polls. Despite widespread media support and the fact that she did not go through the primary process, her national lead over former President Donald Trump is still far from secure.
A recent CBS poll indicates a tight race between Harris and Trump, with only a one to two percent difference in key battleground states.Â
Meanwhile, the Trump campaign has wasted no time in targeting the Democratic candidates, branding them with nicknames such as “Comrade Kamala” Harris and “Communist Slob” Tim Walz.
