In a community op-ed featured in The Pavlovic Today, NYC Mayor Eric Adams shares his personal battle with homelessness, championing housing solutions.
“This fight is personal for me. I know what feels like to live without the security of housing because I grew up on the edge of homelessness. My siblings and I had to carry trash bags full of clothes to school because we didn’t know where we would sleep the next night. That is no way to live,” writes Adams.
Let’s get you caught up with the news of the day.
President Joe Biden is going to Raleigh, North Carolina today.
A panel of state Appellate Division judges has decreed a reduction of Trump’s bond in his civil fraud case from $464 to $175 million.
“I greatly respect the decision of the appellate division and I’ll post the $175 million in cash or bonds or security or whatever is necessary very quickly within the 10 days, and I thank the appellate division for acting quickly,” Trump said after the ruling.
Attorney General Letitia James is presently unable to initiate asset seizure.
Donald Trump will face trial on 15 April over alleged hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
President Biden is currently on the campaign trail in North Carolina, a battleground state that Trump secured in 2020. Alongside other Southern battlegrounds such as Georgia, this region constitutes a crucial component of Biden’s strategy for clinching victory in the 2024 elections.
In the 2020 elections, Georgia stood out as the closest state won by President Biden, while North Carolina similarly emerged as the tightest race won by Donald Trump nationwide.
“President Biden and Vice President Harris have delivered for the South after four years of failure under Trump, and our campaign will continue to highlight the stark contrast between their agenda and the MAGA extremism taking hold of the GOP in these states under Trump,” said Julie Chavez Rodriguez, Biden-Harris 2024 Campaign Manager.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is poised to unveil the vice presidential selection.
The Senate and the House are out today.
Republican Representative Claudia Tenney of New York voiced her worries on Monday during an interview on Fox News about the potential loss of control by Republicans in the House. According to Tenney, this scenario could lead to Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries assuming the role of Speaker of the House.
“We’re perilous. We could end up having a Speaker Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) in the interim here while we’re waiting for special elections,” she said.
The Israeli delegation is not coming to Washington. Matt Miller said that the statement from the Government of Israel “was a bit surprising and unfortunate.” He said that the UN Security Council resolution calling for a cease-fire in Gaza during Ramadan from which the United States abstained had issues with the fact that it did not condemn Hamas’s terrorist attacks of October 7th.
“That’s why we didn’t vote for it,” said Miller. “But the reason we didn’t veto it is because there were also things in that resolution that were consistent with our long-term position; most importantly, that there should be a ceasefire, and that there should be a release of hostages, which is what we understood also to be the Government of Israel’s position.”
