Let’s get you caught up with the news of the day.
THE WHITE HOUSE
President Biden is going to California today. He will be speaking at the campaign reception in LA. This whole week Biden will be in California and is coming back to the White House on Friday.
GLOBAL AFFAIRS
The US is calling via a UN resolution for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza. Biden has cautioned Israel against a ground incursion into Rafah, where numerous displaced Palestinians seek refuge amid the conflict.
The aid to Ukraine is still pending. Speaker Mike Johnson is on vacation with the rest of the US Congress and has met with President Trump on Presidents’ Day. Biden said he is open to meeting with Johnson, and he criticized the House Republicans yesterday.
“The way they’re walking away from the threat of Russia, the way they’re walking away from NATO, the way they’re walking away from meeting our obligations — it’s just shocking. I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Biden
Lyudmila Navalnaya, 69, the mother of Alexei Navalny, has issued an appeal to Vladimir Putin for the release of her son’s body in a YouTube video.
“I appeal to you, Vladimir Putin, because the solution to this problem depends only on you,” she said. “Let me finally see my son. I demand that Alexei’s body be released immediately so that I can bury him in a humane way.”
A Russian helicopter pilot who defected to Ukraine last year has reportedly been discovered dead in a car park in Spain.
